Rationale for Pedagogical Training and Development


Niviana's Academy enables educators to excel in their profession. Niviana provides educational training and consultation services for educators both at the secondary and post-secondary levels. The idea of Niviana’s Academy was originated to fill existing needs and bridge current gaps. On the higher education level, faculty members are highly educated and regarded as experts in their respective subject matters. However, they are not necessarily trained in communicating their technical expertise to students. Likewise, pedagogical training and professional development are critically needed at the secondary level. Public school teachers need ongoing trainings to sharpen their instructional skills, learn about innovative pedagogical approaches, and maintain currency in their career path. Pedagogical trainings are similarly indispensable for private school teachers who may not have adequate access to pedagogical training and instructional resources.
The need for ongoing pedagogical training and professional development programs is especially critical at this time because of the growing diversity in the student body in our educational institutions. Educators should be well-prepared to cultivate an inclusive learning environment that welcome and engage students from diverge backgrounds and learning styles thus enabling students to reach their full potential. Moreover, the globalization process and the increasing interest in international education increase the likelihood of mobile educators across the world. While educators may be equipped with the required teaching competencies, they do not necessarily have the intercultural skills that facilitate effective interactions in other multicultural settings.
